THE RCAA CARBON FOOTPRINT

Last Wednesday, EAG presented an analysis of our Club’s Carbon Footprint for our weekly meeting. 1232 pounds CO2 per meeting (The charts and the graphs are now available on the RCAA webpages.) Our carbon footprint is not bad actually compared with similar meetings. But it’s still a lot of hot air.

Rotary International is encouraging all clubs to become a ZERO CARBON “Climate Friendly Club”. Last year our RCAA Board voted to start the process. We want to be listed with hundreds of Climate Friendly Rotary clubs world-wide. We are following the Rotary International roadmap. The first step is estimating our Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP?

The Second Step is that we all pull together to lower our carbon footprint – to ZERO. We do that by cutting our own emissions and offsetting our emissions through community service (like planting trees) and financial donations.

We will have some conversations and brainstorming over these next months. Together we can do this. We can join other carbon neutral clubs around the world, and be a model for others.

Yes, this will be a challenge – but, hey! We’re Rotarians!!! We can do this!

EAG invites questions — and volunteers to help work on this problem. eag@a2rotary.org
