Spotlight on Community Allocations Grant Winner

The Community Action Network (CAN) is one of 14 Washtenaw County nonprofit organizations selected by the RCAA Community Allocations Committee for grant funding in 2026. The grant monies are available from the funds raised at the Golf & Entertainment Outing (GEO) held at Barton Hills Country Club in September 2025. On Wednesday, October 14th, Derrick Miller, Executive Director of the Community Action Network (CAN), will provide RCAA members a brief overview of the organization’s mission and operations and some insight into how the grant funds awarded by RCAA in 2026 were put to use. (This will be part of the Business Meeting.) CAN is a Washtenaw County nonprofit that partners with children, youth, and families from under-resourced neighborhoods to create better futures.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Derrick has led CAN through significant organizational growth, expanding its annual budget, strengthening educational and housing programs, and launching innovative community sustainability initiatives. He is committed to building partnerships and developing long-term solutions that help families and neighborhoods thrive.
