Rotarians – take action! If you read only the headlines it would seem that solar power in America is in decline. But in fact, solar power in the United States is experiencing one of its strongest growth periods ever. In the past quarter, the U.S. installed 11.7 GW (gigawatts, that’s a lot) of new solar capacity. Solar accounted for 58% of all new electricity generating capacity added to the grid through the first three quarters of 2025. Solar and wind together provided about 18% of U.S. electricity generation in 2025, with projections rising to 21% by 2027.
Surprisingly, 73% of new solar capacity in 2025 was built in states won by President Donald Trump, including Texas, Indiana, Florida, Arizona, Ohio, Utah, Kentucky, and Arkansas. Utah, for example, surged into the top 10 with over 1 GW of new utility scale projects coming online in Q3 2025.
Internationally Rotary’s Million Solar Panels initiative encourages Rotarians to purchase solar panels in order to impact climate change – and reduce their power bills. https://esrag.org/million-solar-panel/
