Club Policies Pertaining to Programs & Speakers

  • Dallas Dort spoke at the board meeting regarding political guest speakers. There is a concern about negatively impacting members. The issue is that we want to hear about all subjects that are reasonably balanced and thoughtfully presented. Dallas has put this policy into the hands of the board as a suggestion. The Program Committee would like some clarity.
  • The program committee is very good at vetting speakers for our weekly meetings. This policy is being reviewed by the board.

Community Allocations Invitations

  • The board discussed sending invitations to our Community Allocations awardees to attend our weekly lunch meetings. It would help our club to see who we are supporting; and hopefully gain new members from those groups as well.

Service Above Self Scholarship Renewal Issue

  • A financial issue arose when WCC students requested to renew their FY 2023/24 awarded scholarships for the second year. As background — Our website states
    • Scholarships will be renewable for one additional year if the recipient earns a minimum 3.0 GPA, is pursuing classes toward the completion of one of the college’s programs and successfully completes 2/3 of the classes on his or her schedule.
  • A motion was made to honor the request for the students who have remaining funds. A suggestion was made to change the wording of the italicized item noted above to depending on whether there are funds available or not.

Newsletter

  • Dan would like to redesign the newsletter and return to a weekly submission. He needs more volunteers but will take this on his own until he gets that help. Any interested parties should contact Dan Romanchik. It only takes 1-2 hours to put together the newsletter each week.

Strategic Planning Sessions

  • Sign-ups have begun for attending Strategic Planning sessions. Dawn Johnson is leading this effort.

November 20th Meeting at Zingerman’s

  • Promotion of this event has begun for the November 20th Lunch Meeting at Zingerman’s Roadhouse. Program will be Ari Weinzweig talking about his new book, “A Revolution of Dignity”. We are looking into an adjusted and abbreviated business meeting to allow more time for Ari to speak.
