The Board of Director’s Meeting was held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. On the final day of the month of January our club had 234 Active Members. Attendance for the month’s three meetings was 37% (up 9% from last month). Average attendance at each meeting was 84 members and 8 guests. Our Engagement Ratio for the month was 51% (up 9% from last month). Zoom vs. In-Person reports have been sporadic due to the barcode scanner system. Dawn has tightened this up and numbers will be reflected in next month’s report. We had seven new members join the club in January: Anna Byberg, Ed Johnson, Shirlee Kipp, Susan Shipman, Nancy Harrison (reinstatement), Wendy Zielen, and Rick Jarzembowski (transfer from Ann Arbor North).
The board unanimously approved the nominations for four new members: John Simpkins (reinstatement), David Leach, Dennis Burke, and Emily Conrady.
Our club financial highlights include Foundation total assets of $2,709,666 and Club Operations balance of $54,848. There are a number of members who pay their dues in monthly increments. Our accounting is handled on a cash basis, which means that the outstanding $5,594 isn’t accounted for. A change to an accrual accounting will capture this information in the future. The projected shortfall to budget for the fiscal year is approximately $7,400 because of this. Since this is a relatively new system, President Mark will investigate developing a Policy on Monthly Dues and the expectations for members when they elect this method of payment.
Club leadership is doing the best we can without an Executive Administrator. We are working to fix some procedural holes. We continue to ask membership to be patient while we continue to search for a new Executive Administrator. An offer that was extended to a candidate recently was ultimately declined. The search committee chose to pay for one month on ZipRecruiter – which has brought in some additional candidates we had not been able to reach through other methods. Two potential candidates will be scheduled for initial interviews. We are also talking to another individual who was interviewed late last year, who remains interested in the position. The Search Committee consists of Joanne Pierson (chair), Mark Foster, Mark Ouimet, Norman Herbert, Barbara Eichmuller and Kathy Waugh.
The board discussed whether to continue our monthly Zoom-only meetings. While we are encouraging members to come in person to meetings, there is a significant cost-savings to retaining our once-a-month zoom-only meetings. We have already scheduled these for the rest of the year with the Michigan staff so the Anderson Room would need to be rebooked in order to get the in-person meetings back on their calendar.
