Did you know that, as of March 23, 2026, there are 36,556 Rotary Clubs in the world, totaling 1,163,774 members.
The US has the most with 6,997 clubs and 263,114 members for an average of 38 members each. Our neighbors in Canada host 665 clubs with 18,780 members.
Asia is doing well with India (4,804 clubs with 181,672 members), Japan (2,174, 83,489), South Korea (1,594, 65,663), and Taiwan (1,026, 36,980). The growth in Asia has offset the decline in North America to keep the total Rotarians at 1.2 million for longer than most of us can remember.
In the South Pacific, we have Australia (930, 20,898) and New Zealand (192, 5,005)
Brazil has, by far, the most Rotarians in Latin America. It has 2,310 clubs totaling 52,085 members.
Europe is well-represented with England (1,164, 25,282), Germany (1,161, 58,764), France (1,094, 28,253), and Italy (983, 40,018). Francesco Arezzo, current RI President is from the Ragusa Club in Italy.
In Sub-Saharan Africa, Nigeria leads with 596 clubs with 5,256 members. Olayinka Babalola, RI’s Incoming President is from the Trans Amadi Club. He spent a few days with District 6380 Presidents-elect at PELS (President-elect Leadership Seminar) in Kalamazoo earlier this month.
The Middle East and North Africa is not a stronghold of Rotary.
The latest records I have on individual clubs worldwide are from July 1, 2025:The largest club in the world was Vijayawada Midtown (India) at 760. Seoul Gangseo (South Korea) is second at 599. The biggest two in the US are Birmingham AL (575) and Oklahoma City (557). Next in line in the US are Atlanta (506), Baton Rouge (477), Nashville (459), and Madison (418). The largest club in Michigan is Muskegon at 249. We are shown as second at 202. That puts us at 40th in the US and 76th in the world. Grand Rapids is listed as 198. Traverse City (155) and Lansing (148) are next in line. Nearby Toledo is 331.
Observations: Until recently, RCAA was the biggest club in MI for about a dozen or so years after surpassing Grand Rapids. We peaked at 334 in 2016. Roger Fraser, Bill McPherson, and Paul Webb are three current members from the class that took us to the heights! Now, Muskegon has vaulted into the lead.
Earlier this Rotary year, Grand Rapids was a little ahead of us. As of now, Muskegon is listed at 264 but Grand Rapids is back down to 198 while we are up to 204!
