At our last meeting, the ARC and Peace Committee, chaired by Norma Sarkar, chose to begin a book club that is open to all members of our Rotary Club, and chose Percival Everett’s highly acclaimed book “James” as the book for our first discussion.
It is a fascinating new look of Mark Twain’s “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” as told from the enslaved character Jim’s point of view. I, like many of our members, read Twain’s classic many years ago. I found it incredibly refreshing to go on that journey down the Mississippi river again in those pre-civil war years and re-experience those events from a different perspective. I highly recommend it. We should have a great time discussing it.
“James” is available at the Ann Arbor public library, local bookstores, and on Amazon.
We will have a 1 hour zoom discussion of the book on Wednesday, March 26th from 6:30-7:30 pm.
To obtain the link to the Zoom discussion of “James” please Email Dave Keren (dfkeren@gmail.com) about your interest and suggestions for other books. This will give us an idea of how many will be attending. I hope you will be able to join us.
