Our speaker on February 12, Mark Clague, Editor-in-Chief of the Gershwin Initiative at the School of Music Theatre & Dance, will tell us about the current staging of Porgy & Bess at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. That staging utilizes the new critical edition of the score that was given a “test reading” in February 2018 by the University Musical Society in a critically acclaimed concert. The matinee performance of Porgy & Bess on February 1 will be telecast in the “Live From the MET” series at the Michigan Theatre as well as at local cineplexes.
