On Friday, August 26, 2022, 10 Rotarians, guests, and new members gathered at Gallup Park for an inspiring tour of the Embracing Our Differences installation. Our docent Linda Grekin provided some history about the project and shared interesting background as we visited each display. Each canvas has a drawing and a quote about Embracing Our Differences, with many written by middle and high school students. She pointed out important material on each canvas and ask essential questions to ponder. Contributors to the project are from all over the world as well as Ann Arbor. Our own member, Barbara Bach, has contributed a beautiful drawing. All participants commented that it was a most worthwhile experience and left them with many things to think about.
Embracing Our Differences is currently displayed at Gallup Park, Leslie Science Center, and Riverside Park in Ypsilanti through September 30. Generous donors including Rotary Club of Ann Arbor have made it possible to bring busloads of elementary school students to tour the exhibit with a docent. Linda observed that younger students ask the best questions and make the most interesting comments as they are not as self-conscious about the topic as their older classmates. Volunteer docents are still needed as the school tours will begin again soon. Be sure to checkout this wonderful exhibit before September 30.
Each month, the Membership Committee is sponsoring a Fourth Friday event for new members and Rotarians. Read the Rotarian newsletter to see what is happening and do plan to join us!
