Did you know Jim Egerdal raced catamarans?

Most of us know Jim Egerdal as one of our tech guys, but did you know that he raced catamarans most of his adult life, and only recently decided that catamaran racing is a younger man’s sport? He traded his catamaran for a 38-foot sailboat and now spends much of his summers exploring the Great Lakes. Lake Superior is his favorite. Two of the “don’t miss” places he recommends there are Isle Royale and the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.

When Jim is “on the hard” he enjoys mountain biking. Jim says we are very fortunate to have some excellent mountain biking trails in our area, especially the Detroit Edison Foundation Trails, with some 27 miles of trails just north of Chelsea. Jim rounds out every year riding in the Ice Man, a 30 mile mountain bike race through the woods from Kalkaska to Traverse City the first Saturday of every November.

Jim combines his love of sailing and mountain biking by carrying two folding bicycles on board his sailboat. This enables him to better exploring wherever he makes landfall.
