Dr. Vin Gupta, MD, MPA, MSc, who has lately become the face of NBC News as their spokesperson for COVID 19 related issues, is a Rotary Scholar supported by our Rotary District 6380 and specifically supported by RCAA. Dr. Gupta (no relation of Dr. Sanjay Gupta, MD who is the Chief Medical Correspondent of CNN with a connection to Michigan) attended University of Cambridge in London on Rotary Scholarship and received his Master’s degree in International Relations. During his year at Cambridge, when he came back home for holidays, Late Past President Len Stenger had a reception for Dr. Gupta at his home during his year as President of RCAA. He could not speak to our Club, but he was a presenter at the District 6380 Annual Conference in 2016.
In addition to MSc from Cambridge, Dr. Vin has a BA degree from Princeton, an MD from Columbia, and MPA from Kennedy School at Harvard. He grew up in Metro Detroit area. That was the connection for his Rotary Scholarship.
Vinay (Vin) is a very accomplished physician with 15 years of experience working worldwide to improve public health for organizations including CDC, WHO, Harvard’s Global Health Institute, Pentagon’s Center for Global Health Engagement and Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation(IHME) at University of Washington in Seattle. He is currently an Associate Professor at WU’s IHME. In addition to his affiliation with NBC News, Dr. Gupta is contributor to New York Times and CNN New Day. He maintains his active commission in the US Air Force and holds a rank of Major.
