Ashish Sarkar has been selected as the recipient of the 2026 Robert S Northrup Humanitarian Award by the Award Selection Committee composed of Rotarians and community representatives appointed by the ARC and Peace Committee, for his lifelong commitment to provide service to humanity, with a strong moral sense and in cooperation with like minded individuals and organizations.

Ashish Sarkar, a Rotarian since 2002, is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor (2015-2016). He has organized and implemented several Rotary sponsored projects, in our community, regionally, and globally. He was the Convener of the multidistrict 2017 Rotary World Peace Conference held in Ann Arbor in March 2017, attended by Rotarians from around the world.

He served as the Rotary District Foundation Chair for District 6380. He has also been the Finance Committee Chair for District 6380. In his younger days, he belonged to US Jaycees and became one of their National Directors in the seventies. For his statewide work, he was
awarded JCI Senator and a US Jaycees Ambassador.

Through his tireless work and collaboration with people and organizations in India, Detroit, Ghana, Guatemala and Antigua he has helped more than 100,000 newborns by securing hundreds of NICU beds. He has provided help to more than 100,000 poor individuals in Metro Detroit area. Through a reverse Global Grant project he was able to obtain and distribute much needed masks and PPE to health care facilities in Detroit area during the height of the Covid Pandemic.

Ashish holds multiple Paul Harris Fellow awards and is also a Major Donor and a Bequest Society member of the Rotary Foundation. He is also a Sustainer Member and Bequest Society Member for Ann Arbor Rotary Foundation. In 2020, he received Rotary International “Service
Above Self” award.
