President Mark Ouimet gaveled in the Annual Meeting of the Cub at 12:30. Tom Strode started us off with The Star Spangled Banner. Cyril White delivered the Inspirational talk. Don Devine told us the stories of the two old friends before we sang them: Red River Valley and Beautiful Dreamer. President Mark thanked the people who make the meetings run smoothly and Dallas Dort celebrated the four birthday Rotarians.
The Environmental Action Group, represented by Paul Webb, presented us with the opportunity to win at Bingo. The Bingo ‘cards’, populated with tips on how to save the environment, were passed out and the heated competition began. Mary Steffek Blaske was the winner of an appropriately themed canvas bag.
We enjoyed the Send Hunger Packing video. Kuddos to John White for bringing us this project that so many of us enjoyed. Hopefully, we can do it again.
Two new Members were introduced: Linda Kentes and Ugur Cetin.
All members were invited to Happy Hour on Thursday, December 8 at the Session Room. RSVPs to Norma Sarkar were requested.
Secretary Kathy Waugh conducted the election of officers for the 2023-2024 Club year. The slate was presented to the Membership in November and published in The Rotarian the last several weeks. Secretary Kathy invited nominations from the floor. There were none so a vote was taken. The slate was overwhelmingly elected. Thanks to all for their willingness to serve.
Norman Herbert presented the Treasurers Report. The financial situation is grave because of the loss of membership resulting from the pandemic. New members are needed to staff our many projects even more than to help stabilize finances.
Past President Joanne reported on the search for an administrator to replace Emily Olson. She asked that we post the job description on our social media accounts and any other place where candidates may be found. The holidays make the search more difficult than usual. Help from the membership will be needed to bridge the gap between Emily and the new person and we will all have to pitch in. In particular, we need help running the Zoom meetings.
Assistant District Governor Elect Collyer Smith closed the meeting on a much happier note. One of his tasks is to arrange a Meet the Governor event and to his shock and GREAT happiness, he has secured the Stephen Ross Pavillion at Michigan Stadium as a venue. Astonishment and joy were expressed with the clicking of heels and some touchdown dancing. Our thanks to Fritz Seyferth for his key role in securing this for the July 14, 2023 event.
The meeting was closed by President Elect Mark Foster honoring the 81st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor with a quote from Winston Churchill: “Never was so much owed by so many to so few.”
