Dennis Powers

12:55  Dennis Powers introduced this week’s speaker, George Watson, PhD and his topic, “Bearing Witness: The Making of a Black Forensic Psychologist”.

George Watson

George Watson shared details about his upbringing in an African-American family recognized as having “light skin” and how this experience shaped his identity and ultimately led him to a career in psychology. After graduating with a Master’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan, George described how he would treat and work with clients who had been accused of severe felonies in the Michigan area, challenging how the term “insanity” is prescribed and enforced. After his presentation concluded George answered several questions from the audience.

A fascinating and intriguing topic and we thank George Watson for his presentation!
