March 21, 2018

The Board of Director’s Meeting was held Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the United Way Building. President John called the meeting to order and motions were made and approved to accept the Agenda and February Minutes.

The Club’s membership on February 28 was 306 Active Members plus six Honorary members and seven Inactive Emeriti. Attendance for the month’s four meetings was 34%. Average attendance at each meeting was 83 members plus 12 others. Our engagement ratio for the month of February was 54%. On February 28, the Operating Fund Balance was $49,135.06. The Club’s Endowment Investment market value was $2,113,135.37.

DIRECTOR REPORTS:

PUBLIC IMAGE: The new website continues to be a work in process. There a few devoted member volunteers working to make sure it is meeting the needs of our members. Anyone with experience in web design, maintenance or social media are encouraged to contact Laura Thomas to find out how you can help.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: The Rotate Your Food summer food drive that ended last Friday was a success with final results still pending. Thirty-seven applications were received by the grant deadline. The Community Allocations Committee will meet on April 3 to decide what projects will be funded. The Golf and Tennis Outing is scheduled for Monday, September 10 at Travis Pointe Country Club.

CLUB OUTREACH: This past year the International Humanitarian Projects Committee has been very successful at leveraging funds from different Rotary Clubs, the District and Global Grants. As a result, they are evaluating how to determine what projects to take on as well as measuring success goals to make sure projects are sustainable. The Membership Committee inducted nine new members and two reinstatements on March 14. It is the “year of the women” with nine of the eleven new and reinstating members being women.

CLUB SERVICE: The Social Committee is working with the District to hold our “Spring Fling” in conjunction with the District Conference on May 3 at the Yankee Air Museum. It is quick and easy to complete this two question survey and we want to hear from as many members as possible.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT: The Rotaractors will be sharing their experiences from their Domestic trip to New Orleans and International trip to Guatemala at our April 4 meeting. The Pioneer Interact Club held a food drive, have been visiting elementary schools and are planning on helping at the Cass Tiny House Community workday on Saturday, March 24. The Huron Interact Club working with the Ann Arbor Rec & Ed about volunteering at their camps this summer in addition to planning a cleanup day at the Huron High School Campus.

YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT: The Rotary Readers and Tutors, Service About Self Scholarships, STRIVE and Junior Rotarians are active as is usual for this time of year.

CENTENNIAL: A letter recognizing all of the donors for the Universal Access Playground will be sent out this spring. The playground continues to see lots of visitors even though it is closed for the winter months.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER: Reminder the last luncheon meeting at the Union will be on April 25. After that we will be meeting at Weber’s on Jackson Road until the renovations to the Union are completed. The District Conference is being held at Eagle Crest Hotel in Ypsilanti. It is our goal to have as many members of our club attend the Conference as possible. You can sign up by going to this link. The Nominating Committee for next year’s Board has been appointed and are busy identifying possible candidates.
