Funding for our community contributions is derived from member assessments and our annual Golf and Tennis Outing. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we are unable to host this wildly popular event this year. However, is the spirit of the outing, we will be holding an on-line auction to help support our annual fundraiser. The auction will take place online from October 19 – October 26, 2020.
Over the past seventeen years of our annual event, our club has raised over a half- million dollars for various local causes including scholarships for high school graduates, the local literacy and health initiative Washtenaw Success by 6, and the replacement of trees lost to disease. In addition, the Club, in commemoration of its centennial anniversary in 2016, contributed $550,000 towards a million-dollar Universal Access Playground in Gallup Park which allows children with disabilities the opportunity to gain a sense of self-confidence and individuality.
**COVID-19 UPDATE: 2020 Golf and Tenis Outing CANCELLED**
After thoughtful and comprehensive deliberation, we are compelled to cancel 2020’s RCAA GTO event, which had been scheduled for Sept. 8, 2020 at Fox Hills Golf and Banquet Center. We wanted to inform you of this, as soon as was practicable, for your planning purposes. We have rescheduled the event to next year on Sept. 13, 2021 (2nd Monday in Sept.) at Fox Hills Golf and Banquet Center.
As we studied the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on large social events, it became clear to us that, though we may have been able to improvise the actual golf tournament while preserving some degree of social distancing, it would be impossible to assure the safety of some 200-300 guests afterward at our very popular Reception and Banquet, where the purpose of our convivial joining together is just the opposite of social distancing! We are also very sensitive to the financial impact of the pandemic, and realize that this is not the most opportune time to be soliciting our loyal supporters for financial support, given that they or their companies are focused on their own survival, or are supporting other needs such as COVID “front line” workers in the community.
We are disappointed to have to do this, especially since we were very excited about staging the event at our new venue, Fox Hills this year, but hope you will understand and will use this notification as a “save the date” for next year’s RCAA GTO on Sept. 13, 2021 at Fox Hills. Until then, we wish you safety and health and a large dose of prosperity as we “open up” this year.
In lieu of the GTO, we hosted “A Mid Summer Italian Festival Fundraiser” on August 17th, 2020, and will be hosting an Online Auction from Oct 19-23, 2020.
The Rotary Club of Ann Arbor’s Virtual Mid Summer Italian Festival fundraiser was fabulous! The food and wine from Paesano Restaurant & Wine Bar were superb and the informative wine talk presented by Mike Roddy and Chaad Thomas was as entertaining as it was interesting. The playlist of Italian music, compiled by Kathy Waugh, added to the ambiance. Emcee Steve Schram was extraordinary. Best of all, more than $14,000 was raised to support Rotary’s community projects!
Want to host your own wine-tasting event, or watch Mike and Chaad’s talk on the wines separately? If you registered for the event, you’ll be provided access to the video soon. If you missed the event, you can make a $50 donation to receive a copy of the video recording. Click here to purchase!
The purpose of our Annual Golf and Tennis Outing is threefold.
- Largest annual fundraiser.
- Social event that strengthens fellowship within our club.
- Promote awareness of Rotary in our community and attract new members.
The Golf and Tennis outing includes: lunch, golf, tennis, reception / cocktail hour, auction, dinner and speaker(s). Sponsorships, individual participants and the auction are essential parts of the outing’s success. It’s all about “Helping Kids Succeed”
2019’s event took place on Monday, September 9, 2019 at the Travis Pointe Country Club.
Thanks to all who helped make the 17th Annual Golf and Tennis Outing a smashing success! Our net revenue exceeded our expectations by more than $15,000. This would not have been possible without the support of our corporate sponsors, member volunteers, our robust auction committee, donors, and supporters. A good time was had by all. Good weather, good friends, and a good cause. We look forward with great anticipation for the 18th Annual Golf and Tennis Outing for the RCAA being an even greater success. We are currently designing and producing our brochure form the 2020 GTO to take place at Fox Hills Country Club. If you have interest in being a sponsor, donor, or volunteer, please contact Greg Stejskal or Charlie Koopmann.
Please see the brochure below from our 2019 Golf and Tennis Outing for general information.
