Sun, June 12: Music at the Playground 5th Anniversary Celebration Event

Join us on Sunday, June 12th from 1-4pm for a family friendly music event Gallup Park to celebrate the 5 Year Anniversary of the opening of our Universal Access Playground!

This playground was built by the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor, in partnership with the City of Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation, to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of our club in 2016. The Universal Access Playground was designed to be usable by all people to the greatest extent possible exceeding standards under the Americans with Disabilities Act including features and surfacing that are inclusive, stimulating and fun for all users, whether fully independent, or with mobility, sensory or visual impairments.

This FREE event will include:

  • Music provided by Los Gatos, a local Latin jazz ensemble, and the Community High School Jazz Band
  • Free refreshments, including ice cream novelties from Washtenaw Dairy and refreshing water from Absopure
  • Special speakers discussing the impact of the playground and park
  • Fun for the whole family!

Parking will be available near the Playground in Gallup Park at 3000 Fuller Rd, Ann Arbor, MI. The park will likely be busy, so additional parking can be found across the street from the park entrance at Huron High School. Boober Tours will be providing free shuttle service from that parking area to the event location within the park.

June 12 Time Schedule

1:00 – 2:00pm Community High School Jazz Band

2:00 – 2:30pm VIP Speakers

2:30 – 3:45pm Los Gatos

4:00pm Approximate conclusion of event.

Volunteer List:

  • Main Tent – Pass out ice cream, stickers, supervise water cooler.

Shift 1  1:00 – 2:00pm 2 volunteers needed.

Shift 2  2:00 – 3:00pm 2 volunteers needed.

Shift 3  3:00 – 4:00pm 2 volunteers needed.

  • Clean Up – Light duty stacking chairs, 2 tables, trash pickup.

Shift 1  3:30 – 4:30pm 2 volunteers needed.

  • Rotary Floaters – Circulate in the park as emissaries of Rotary. Help where needed.

Shift 1  1:00 – 2:00pm 1-2 volunteers needed.

Shift 2  2:00 – 3:00pm 1-2 volunteers needed.

Shift 3  3:00 – 4:00pm 1-2 volunteers needed.

  • Parks Department Staff/Volunteers

        4 individuals will be on-site for the event.
