CHARGING AHEAD

I am among the 50% of Ann Arbor residents who rent or live in MUDs (multi-unit dwellings). We don’t have discretion over installing an EV charger where we park our car. What to do? Ann Arbor to the rescue! Our fair city is expanding availability of public charging stations.

There are 237 presently available. For our Tesla I can use fast-charging at city hall (.50 per Kh/10 cents per mile) or Level 2 charging at parking ramps around the city (.25 per kH less than 6 cents per mile). On November 16 Ann Arbor unveiled new utility pole mounted Level 2 EV charging stations, 407 N. Ingalls St.) (.20 per Kh, less than 5 cents per mile.) The chargers are curbside and are intended to make EV charging more accessible to renters, or those who otherwise can’t charge an EV at home. And there is no parking fee while charging. Charging can take 4 to 6 hours at Level 2.

EAG member Don Duquette joined Dr. Missy Stults, director of A2’s Office of Sustainability and Mayor Christopher Taylor at the unveiling of A2’s first curbside charging station, 407 Ingalls St.
