The Board of Director’s Meeting was held on Wednesday, January 15 at the United Way Building. Club membership on December 31 was 282 Active members, plus six Honorary members and six Inactive Emeriti. Attendance for the month’s three meetings was 34%. Average attendance at each meeting was 97 members plus nine others. Resignations from Reed Vander Slik (relocation) and Dan Romanchik (business pressures) were accepted with regret. Our Engagement Ratio for the month was 58%. On December 31, the Operating Fund Balance was $36,439.87. The Club’s Endowment Investment market value was $2,326,890.96.
President Rosemarie announced that the 2019 Golf and Tennis Outing was such a great success, we have $11,951.26 additional funds from the event proceeds. A motion was made, supported and passed to earmark this money for “special projects.” The first $4,000 will be designated for the 2020 Touch a Truck event. The remaining funds will be used for community projects as deemed appropriate. Directors are to submit proposals to Rosemarie for presentation at the February Board Meeting.
Our first meeting back at the Michigan Union will be on February 5 from 6 – 8 pm. John Hewko, General Secretary and Executive Officer of Rotary International will be our speaker. This will be popular event and registration is required. You can register at a meeting or online.
Club Service announced the annual Social Committee’s Wine, Women and Song on January 23 at the Kerrytown Concert House is almost sold out. Mark your calendars and reserve your place by emailing Shelley MacMillan at shelleymacmillan@mac.com for this very popular event! On another note another projectionist is needed for the weekly meetings. It is not a complicated job and is assigned on a rotating basis. Club Outreach on behalf of the Membership Committee presented the nomination of Daphne Schalbetter as a New Member Elect for the March 11 new member class. Her nomination was approved unanimously. The Satellite Club continues to meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at the Pretzel Bell from 6 – 7 pm. The next meeting is Tuesday, January 21. All RCAA members are invited to attend. The Peace Committee in cooperation with Lost Voices is hosting a concert on Sunday, March 1 from 4 – 6 pm at the First Presbyterian Church. Stay tuned for more details to follow.
Public Image reported that job descriptions for the Harpoon have been compiled. Currently there are four note takers but one more is needed to serve on a rotating basis. The Public Relations Committee is waiting for a decision by the City of Ann Arbor legal department regarding placement of Rotary symbol signs along main entrances to the City.
Youth Achievement reported that the STRIVE program has 21 students signed up for this school year. Currently 11 members have volunteered to be a mentor, but ten more mentors are needed. Contact Brian Schrag at brian_schrag@sbcglobal.net to find out how to become a mentor.
Community Service announced that Rotary Fights Summer Hunger has begun its work in January for the food drive scheduled for March 9 – 20. To volunteer to help with the food drive contact Todd Kephart at toddkephart@hotmail.com.
