The Board of Director’s Meeting was held on Wednesday, December 18 at the United Way Building. Club membership on November 30 was 283 Active members, plus six Honorary members and six Inactive Emeriti. Attendance for the month’s three meetings was 30%. Average attendance at each meeting was 85 members plus six others. Our Engagement Ratio for the month was 42%. On November 30, the Operating Fund Balance was $45,250.69. The Club’s Endowment Investment market value was $2,256,900.20.
President Rosemarie reported that at the December 4 Club Assembly, 93 members participated in a tabletop exercise designed to “tap members’ creative ideas and energy.” Members were asked to select one of four topics, appoint a spokesperson, brainstorm for 10 minutes and report to the membership. It was an electric atmosphere filled will lots of enthusiasm and great ideas about how to improve our public image, what kind of alternative fundraiser might work, ideas for new service projects and how to attract new members.

Club Outreach reported that the Membership Committee announced the Spring 2020 new member class will be inducted on March 11 with applications due to the Membership Committee no later than February 11. The Satellite Club continues to meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at the Pretzel Bell from 6 – 7 pm. The next meeting is Tuesday, January 7. All RCAA members are invited to attend. The International Humanitarian Programs Committee reported on the use of funds for solar panels on remote medical clinics in Niger to provide electricity and refrigerators for vaccine storage. The Niger Ministry of Health has strongly supported this effort. The Peace Committee is accepting nominations for the Robert S. Northrup Humanitarian Award. Public Image reported that job descriptions for the Harpoon have been compiled and five members have volunteered to act as weekly meeting reporters on a rotating basis. The Public Relations Committee is waiting for a decision by the City of Ann Arbor legal department regarding placement of Rotary symbol signs along main entrances to the City.
Youth Development reported that Rotaract members have been approved to be Social Hosts at the Presbyterian Church’s Homeless Shelter from Monday, January 6 through Sunday 19. The Pioneer Interact Club was busy in December with a Bake Sale, Shopping Event, ushering at the Wild Swan Theater, Christmas Caroling and volunteering with the Kerrytown Christmas Set Up.
Youth Achievement reported that the STRIVE program has 21 students signed up for this school year. Currently 11 members have volunteered to be a mentor, but ten more mentors are needed. Contact Brian Schrag at brian_schrag@sbcglobal.net to find out how to become a mentor.
Community Service announced that Co-Chairs Rick Price and Carolina Typaldos will email Community Allocation applications to local non-profits on January 2 with a filing deadline of February 22. Rotary Fights Summer Hunger will begin its work in January for the food drive scheduled for March 9 – 20.
