Summary of September 21, 2022 Board Meeting

The Board of Director’s Meeting was held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. On the final day of the month our club had 225 Active Members, plus 22 Emeriti and five pending Emeriti. Attendance for the month’s two meetings was 24% (down 2% from last month). Average attendance at each meeting was 55 members and 6 guests. Average in person attendance was 27 and average Zoom attendance was 35. Our Engagement Ratio for the month was 56% (up 20% from last month.) Discussion for the board included approval of two individuals for Club Membership: Sarah Strader and Maggie Williams.

Our District Governor, Bala Murthy, was in attendance and he introduced himself to the group. He reaffirmed our district territory includes 45 clubs and two satellites. Bala plans to share best practices across the district and discover what’s working well and how we can all work together. “The best lesson learned is the last mistake.” (Bala Murthy). The board discussed ways to build back membership – the more people you can get in the room versus Zoom will improve things. The board is hoping to see increases with in-person attendance.

The board heard from Don Duquette regarding the new Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group, also known as “ESRAG.” The committee was organized and inspired by new member Missy Stults. Individuals selected to serve as Working Group members to explore the feasibility of an Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group include Missy Stults and Don Duquette – Co-chairs; Paul Webb – Secretary; Nishta Bhatia, Jennifer Fike, Tom Millard, Bob Mull, Collyer Smith, and John White. The members identified a list of top project ideas: 1. Tree Planting 2. Having an impact on the circular economy (opens up avenues for working with the community), 3. Aging in place efficiently and 4. Education. There will be planned reach-out to younger members, who are often encouraged by clubs who show a strong environmental initiative. The board strongly approved this committee’s efforts and more information will be unveiled to the club during the October 12 weekly meeting.

The nomination slate for RCAA Board of Directors is complete ahead of schedule. The nominating committee included Susan Froelich, Chair; Members: Mark Foster, Ebru Misirli Mansfield, Mark Ouimet, and Ingrid Sheldon.
