Summary of April 15 Board Meeting

The Board of Director’s Meeting was held on Wednesday, April 15 via Zoom. Club membership on March 31 was 285 Active members, plus six Honorary members and six Inactive Emeriti. On March 31, the Operating Fund Balance was $7,520. The Club’s Endowment Investment market value was $1,872,536, a 13% decrease from February 29.

Club response to the COVID-19 virus was the first topic of discussion. The following is how RCAA has reallocated budget line items to respond to community needs. In some cases, the project was already underway and was reconfigured to respond; in other cases, there was a reallocation of resources; and there are still others that are yet to be implemented, such as the designated Pandemic Response Fund.

Rotary Fights Hunger. Chaired by Todd Kephart, this committee raised $26,500 (which will be matched) plus the equivalent of 160,000 meals in an expanded campaign in response to school closings. This is twice as much as last year’s campaign! Kudos to Todd and his committee.

100k Mask Challenge. RCAA sent $10,100 to District 6380 to help health care workers. The funds for this contribution came from budget line items that will not be utilized due to the cancelling of meetings and events. The International Humanitarian Projects Committee (IHPC) contributed $5,000 from their budget. Other cancelled events contributed $5,100. In addition, the District applied for and received a $25,000 Rotary International Disaster Grant. The District has put up an additional $20,000 and with this seed money they will be purchasing N95 masks to be distributed to hospitals throughout the district.

Proposal to Withdraw Foundation Funds for COVID-19 Relief. After consulting with the Board of Trustees of the Ann Arbor Rotary Foundation and a lengthy discussion, the Board voted to not withdraw funds from the principal of the Foundation.

The Program Committee continues to work diligently to schedule speakers for our weekly Zoom meetings. This week’s topic “A Parent’s Journey into Mental Health” presented by Past President and Assistant District Governor Collyer Smith drew record Zoom attendance of 84 members, 30 guests and 8 visiting Rotarians. Next week Jim Kosteva, a longtime member of our Club and a trained volunteer for Voters Not Politicians will educate us about the process of forming the commission and the timeline it will adhere to as they will adhere to as it goes about redistricting process. Watch your email for a Zoom Link from our Executive Director, Lori Walters on how to access the meeting.
