12:33 For the weekly inspiration, Rotary member Rob Shiff shared a list of specifically inspiring, historical events all took place on September 21st, yet during different years.

12:36  As a musical inspiration, Ingrid Sheldon shared a YouTube music video of Teresa Brewer’s, “Music, Music, Music.”

12:39 Mark Ouimet welcomed all Rotary Members and Guests and shared current announcements, also introducing guest attendee Amanda Stiegfried, who is considering joining Rotary. On behalf of Rotary Ann Arbor Club, we hope that Amanda does indeed join!

12:44 Michael Barg (new RCAA member) announced all current Rotary members’ birthdays.

12:45  Roy Moore announced a summary of the recent GTO event, sharing that the event was very successful in terms of attendance, including the auction, which was increased by 50% in comparison to the previous year.

12:47 Joanne Pierson and Kathy Waugh, in a dramatic and entertaining fashion, shared the list of upcoming, fun, Auction Party sign-ups that are still available to purchase, which included:

  • October 2nd: Condo Crawl
  • October 8th: Bob Buckler’s Pool and Pizza Party
  • October 17th: Michigan Militia Talk
  • October 30th: Twisted Witches Brouhaha

12:52 Susan Froelich shared the Rotary Citation Awards for 2021-2022, which was awarded RCAA for our work in the Service Projects category. Congratulations to our club!

12:55 Tom Millard announced the upcoming Highway Cleanup event taking place on Saturday morning, October 1st.

12:57 John Sepp announced the upcoming Fourth Friday event, which will be taking at Dominick’s restaurant on the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor’s campus on September 23th.

12:59 Dennis Powers announced the Fall Cleanup event, followed by Mary Steffek Blaske sharing her experience as a mentor for the Rent-A-Rotaractor program, and encouraging more members to participate as mentors.

13:03  Dennis Powers introduced this week’s speaker, Matthew VanBesien, President of the University Music Society and his topic, “The 2022-2023 UMS Season Emphasis on DEI”.

Matthew VanBesien shared the program and season approach for UMS, which this year involves performances that are available to attend both in-person and digitally. Among the previous events, an especially noteworthy event involved public figure Trevor Noah, who held a separate Q & A session with the Michigan Engineering Students. His recent book, “Born a Crime” was one of the topics of the session and was very well received by the students.

Other upcoming events include:

  • The National Theatre Live in HD, with Elvis Perkins
  • Jazz at the Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis
  • Berliner Philharmonic Performances, taking place on November 18-19
  • Society for Disobedient Listeners, with Doyle Armbrust
