Holiday Smiles for Veterans

On December 17, thirteen Rotarians and two spouses gathered at the Ann Arbor District Library’s Pittsfield Branch to pack hygiene kits for VA patients under the direction of Don Deatrick. This is the seventh year Don has organized this effort. The group packed 201 bags with toothbrushes, combs, a puzzle book, ChapStick, greeting cards and pens. Fluffed up with halo of tissue paper, the blue bags were taken to the VA where some were distributed to veterans as they checked in. The rest were given to hospital-bound patients by hospital volunteers.

A crew of 13 Rotarians (and a couple of spouses) assembled 201 hygiene kits for veterans at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital on Tuesday, December 17.

In an hour and a half, we managed to assemble the kits, and load them into cars for transport to the VA, and break down the empty boxes. A good morning’s work to give a boost to those who guard our freedoms.
