December 20, 2023 Board Meeting Summary

On the final day of the month of November our club had 215 Active Members. Attendance for November’s three meetings was 37% (up 5% from last month). Average attendance at each meeting was 79 members and 7 guests. Our Engagement Ratio for the month was 59% (up 3% from last month).

This month’s membership saw two terminations: Sally Petersen, who moved, and Sal Barbatano due to disinterest. The board approved the nomination of Edith Too into membership. Her sponsors are Agnes Reading and Fanfan Zheng. The board also voted to approve Frode Maaseidvaag as an Emeritus member of the club.

Our club financial highlights include Foundation total assets of $2,796,512.74 and Club operating cash balance of $83,135.07.

The Nominating Committee has secured the final director position to complete the Board of Directors for 2024-2025. Ugur Cetin is delighted to take on the role of Director of Club Service. An official announcement and vote will take place in January.

The board discussed committee chair terms as defined by the Club bylaws which states that the “chair shall not exceed four years, unless explicitly extended by the Board but in no case may exceed beyond 5 years”. This led into a discussion about the need for a complete bylaw refresh. The board is looking to have a group of interested parties take on this task.

The board also approved to award Madeline King a two-year old STRIVE Scholarship. The scholarship was not used at the time of award (when she graduated in 2021) but Madeline is now interested in attending college. She will be at WCC for the upcoming semester. She reached out to our club to inquire if she would still be able to utilize the scholarship.

A hybrid meeting update was provided. The fees collection is going extremely well and cost cutting measures remain a focus. We have plan moving forward with Linda Kentes leading most of the meetings and providing training more volunteers to lead the meetings.

Julie Dunbar (from Ann Arbor North) has agreed to chair Send Hunger Packaging next year. We hope to have a date for this event by the January board meeting

Missy Stults reached out regarding whether we would participate in the Bicentennial event. The work will fund much-needed upgrades on the Bicentennial Park. We need to know the timeline to better understand how or if we can support, in addition to someone to chair this opportunity for our club.

The board discussed bringing Missy Stults in to discuss this in more detail.

The search committee for a new Executive Administrator has made an offer to Catherine (Cat) Meyer. This was officially announced at the December 20th business meeting. Her employment will begin in mid-January.
