70 Years since the Announcement of the Polio Vaccine

The 70th anniversary of the announcement that the Salk polio vaccine was “Safe, effective, and potent” is Saturday, April 12. The announcement was made in Ann Arbor by Thomas Francis of the U-M’s School of Public Health. Here’s a link to the original press release: https://sph.umich.edu/polio/

On Friday, April 11, 2025, the School will be recording a podcast commemorating the event. The public is invited. An image of the invitation is below. Note the QR code for making a reservation to attend.

I am not sure when the recording will become available but I will share that information widely when the date is announced.

For this live opportunity next Friday morning, I am inviting you and other Rotarians to join me. Note that the School of Public Health is in an area with little public parking. If you let me know who is coming, I can arrange for us to get there.

Given that Rotary’s worldwide signature project is the eradication of polio, I am hoping to get a good turnout of Rotarians.

Thanks for your consideration. You are welcome to share this opportunity. Please let me know if you have any questions.
