The Peace Piece will now appear regularly in the Harpoon, with news from our own RCAA Peace Committee. You may recall that after the successful 2017 Peace Conference, organizers wanted to keep the momentum going, and so formed this committee.
The exercise Bev Siefert led us all in soon after the Peace Conference generated a rich and varied list of ideas for peace building. From that list we’ve created a 2018-19 Action Plan, and we need your help to implement it.
Utilizing funds from the conference, to date we have been able to:
- Co-sponsor a Peace in the Streets event held April 20-21 at Wayne State
- Fund several students at the Ralph Bunche Summer Institute
- Help Madison Vorva (who recently spoke at our Club) receive a Rotary Global Grant Scholarship funding her Masters program at Cambridge University in the U.K.
- Sponsor a speaker at the Yale Indigenous People’s Pow Wow, and hope to work also with the Dance for Mother Earth Pow Wow in Ann Arbor this coming spring.
We have a strong core group, and we encourage others to join us! Come to our next meeting on November 28, immediately following the regular Club meeting. For more information contact Marcia Lane at firstname.lastname@example.org or 734-395-4428.
