One of the Objects of Rotary is, “The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service.” For the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor, the Social Committee of The Rotary Club of Ann Arbor provides these opportunities outside our lunch meetings. These opportunities include Tigers Baseball games, University of Michigan musical events, tours of downtown Detroit, and many other events.
A regular social event is our Happy Hour. Every quarter, Rotarians gather in late afternoon at a local watering hole for drinks and conversation. Over beer and pizza, we tackle the problems of the world, devised solutions, and just have fun.
Last May, the committee put on “Act Your Age,” a one woman act, featuring Beth Urech, teaching us to how to act our age at the Kerrytown Concert House. The Committee also planned the grand opening event for the Universal Access Playground at Gallup Park. It was a beautiful day and great celebration with many children using the new park playground, to the delight of their parents.
In January, Rotarians and guests attended the Preview Night of “Wine Women and Song”. It was a very lively cabaret concert extravaganza featuring 12 performers from all walks of life – great entertainment.
If you enjoy having fun, as well as providing service, consider joining the Social Committee. Contact the chair, Susan Smith Gray, for more information.
