RCAA makes its mark at D6380 convention

By John Ackenhusen

Our club was quite visible at the Rotary District 6380 Conference of May 4 to 6, 2018, Ypsilanti Eagle Crest Marriott:

  • Members Norma Sarkar, Rosemarie Rowney, Marcia Lane, and Beverly Seiford comprised the Speaker Committee, along with Assistant District Governor Anne Nauts;
  • Members Don Deatrick, Barbara Eichmuller, Rosemarie Rowney, and Norma Sarkar were part of the Registration Committee;
  • Our club put up a display of recent activities, including the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor Centennial Park, Community Allocations totaling $65,000, and five International Humanitarian Projects (photo shows the display);
  • Our own Ashish Sarkar received the Brymer Williams Foundation Award, celebrating Ashish as having “emulated PDG Brymer’s passion for the Rotary Foundation and all its programs;”
  • Our Sergeant-At-Arms David Williams, son of Brymer Williams, participated in the District Tree Award, commemorating David’s planting of the first ceremonial tree for the Chatham Rotary Club in May, 1991 – with him at the planting was Sarah Molnar (then Sarah Wagenaar, a Grade 2 student), and she too was part of this Tree Award presentation;
  • Six Ann Arbor Rotary Club members who passed away were commemorated on Sunday morning;
  • Our new member class, led by Kati Bauer, Lauren Heinonen, and Dawn Johnson sold customizable personalized tree tags for the 100 trees planted at the conference, raising $6,050 to be split between the cost of the trees and the Ann Arbor Rotary Club Foundation.

The District Conference included talks and work sessions led by our own Bev Seiford on the topics of harmful algae blooms in Lake Erie and on youth mental health.
