On the evening of Tuesday, July 30th, a group of 11 Rotarians and those interested in being Rotarians descended upon Arbor Brewing Company in downtown Ann Arbor. Though the meeting was set to begin at 6:00 pm, the group had such a great time chatting over drinks and food that the real business didn’t begin until nearly an hour later.
Norma Sarkar led a discussion on dues and joining Rotary. She then prompted each Rotarian at the table to share the value of Rotary, and then asked each guest to tell us about themselves. A lively discussion about the projects and committees that the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor followed. Further chatting and sharing ensued for nearly 3 hours after the start time.
Rotarian Christina Ferris brought a guest, Katherine Daitfotis. Katherine works for Google and is a young professional who moved here one year ago from California. She likes Ann Arbor and is passionate about community service. Dayna Roe visited by recommendation of Rotarian Betsy Hammond. Dayna was a Rotary Exchange Student to LeMans, France, from a small town in the thumb of Michigan, Caro. She loves Rotary and had a wonderful experience as an exchange student. Youness Farokhran also joined us after a discussion with Rotarian Steve Pierce. He is currently teaching in the Math Department at the University of Michigan after retiring from Allen Park Public Schools. He came to the USA from Iran in the 1980s and has a very interesting story to tell. Rotarians in attendance included John White, Joanne Pierson, Andrea Bare, B. Yawson, Ebru Misirli-Mansfield and her husband Brian Mansfield. Sparky Leonard, our District Governor, was also in attendance. Thank you to all of our members who have made referrals to these movers and shakers in our community, and thank you to our current members who have joined us in support.
Our next 2 meetings will be held on August 13 and 27, 6-7:30pm, location TBD. Mark your calendars!
