Rotary Club of Ann Arbor members know the exuberance Ken Fischer brings to meetings, social events and life in general. It is therefore so fitting that Ken will be receiving the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Southern Shores Field Service Council, Boy Scouts of America.
Ken, whose service as the President of the University Musical Society (UMS) of the University of Michigan from 1987-2017, navigated the expansion of program and audience diversity and significantly increased access to arts programming throughout Southeastern Michigan.
Ken’s ability to nurture deep and meaningful relationships within the corporate, arts and educational sectors ushered in a new era of arts leadership and financial success for the UMS and beyond. When UMS was awarded the 2014 National Medal of Arts, the highest award given by the U.S. government to artists and arts organizations, Ken was honored to accept the medal on behalf of UMS from President Obama at the White House. Presently teaching Arts Leadership at the University of Michigan, Ken is also authoring a book about his experiences at UMS set for publication in 2020.
Ken will be honored on September 26, the event is to take place at Barton Hills Country Club. Proceeds from this event will help support youth development programs in Washtenaw County.
