Mike Michelon

Executive Director, Ann Arbor Summer Festival

Title: Ann Arbor Summer Festival Reimagined in 2021 and Redux in 2022

Introducer: Dennis Powers

Presentation: TBD

For the second year in a row, the coronavirus pandemic forced the Summer Festival to cancel live “Main Stage “performances and its popular “Top of the Park” summer series. Mike will describe, now, how it adapted to survive and maintain a presence in our community during COVIDtide. He also, in next May or June, will tell us how it plans to resume normal schedule of offerings. The ensembles which have started streaming post-COVID, in contrast, using the Cleveland Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra as examples, do so by taping a performance in the hall and subsequently streaming the edited video. Access to the livestream is by buying an individual concert ticket or, in the case of Cleveland, by purchasing access on a monthly basis; both give free access to subscribers and donors above a certain level.

Mike Michelon has been the Festivals Executive Director since November of 2017. Prior to that, he worked for the Festival as General Manager from 2015 to 2017 and as Operations Manager from 2014 to 2015. He was Production Coordinator for the University Musical Society from 2010 to 2014. During his time as a student at the University of Michigan, he was Executive Director of MUSKET from 2007 to 2010. He received his B.A. in Performance Management from the University of Michigan in 2010. The Michigan Daily named him Student of the Year in 2010
