Weekly Meeting - April 15: A Parent’s Journey Into Health Mental Health

Speaker: Collyer Smith was President of our Club in 2016-2017, our Centennial Year. He currently is an  Assistant Governor for Rotary District 6380. In that capacity,  he works with the Rotary Clubs of Chelsea, Ann Arbor North, Saline, and Milan. He also leads the District’s Mental Health Initiative. Outside of Rotary, Collyer serves on the Board of the Family Learning Institute here in Ann Arbor. That volunteer-based non-profit agency is dedicated to closing the achievement gap in Washtenaw County by providing free tutoring in reading to students in grades 2 through 5 who come from economically disadvantaged families and are struggling in school.

Our speaker’s presentation this afternoon will explore the mental health challenges (depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, suicidal ideation)(many of which were movingly depicted by Ben Platt’s character in Dear Evan Hansen  on Broadway) facing teenagers and youth today.
