Weekly Meeting - May 8: Pioneer High School Jazz Band

Jazz involves “a spontaneity and vitality of musical production in which improvisation plays a role,” Joachim E. Berendt has observed, and contains a “sonority and manner of phrasing which mirror the individuality of the performing jazz musician.” Fluidity is the essence of jazz. Jazz bands typically improvise in performance by featuring solos from band members made up on the spot, allowing them to showcase their skill. These fine musicians from Pioneer High School each have his or her own unique perspective on how to compose and play. When those unique components come together this afternoon, the result promises to be extraordinarily creative.
