“Changing of the Guard” has several cultural references including the ceremony at Buckingham Palace in England where soldiers guarding the palace are replaced with pomp and circumstance at change of shift. Another “Changing of the Guard” near and dear to American’s hearts is the symbolic and somber guard change at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery.
The idiom “changing of the guard” has a special meaning for the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor. It is the annual change of leadership in support of our organization. Rosemarie Rowney will take the gavel on July 10 as the 108th President of RCAA –the 9th woman to assume the role and responsibility.
Come and hear about the plans for Rotary’s next year; applaud those who are leaving the Board of Directors and welcome the incoming leadership team. And yes, there will be the traditional passing of the UGLY SHIRT that hangs in each President’s closet since it was first purchased by some misguided President several decades ago.
